These are the horrific  facial injuries  suffered by a  cyclist  who was flung off her bike in a shocking hit and run. Fitness instructor , Tracy Taylor landed on her face after she was thrown through the air as a car ploughed into her while she was out on a Christmas Eve  bike ride  with a friend. Tracy, 36, is lucky to be alive after escaping with a broken  collar bone  and cuts and bruises to her face. See the very graphic  photos  after the cut.

A couple, Ruby Stephens, 23, and Roy Stephens, 48, of Indiana have been charged with first-degree murder for neglecting their 22-day-old baby to die of hunger while strapped in her car seat at the back of their car while they went in to eat at a  Florida restaurant . The mother who came out hours later to check the baby, found out she was completely unresponsive  and cold  to the touch and called 911. The police later arrested the couple and the mother confessed she had strictly breastfed the baby every two-three hours on their long trip to Florida. 

An American girl , whose boyfriend was cheating on her with other women discovered his cheating  messages  and carefully waited till  Christmas morning  to surprise him. She printed out the cheating messages  he has  been  sending  to  the women , then wrapped it as his  Christmas gift  and presented it to him on Christmas day.  She also photographed him as he opened the gift and his confused-looking expression as it slowly dawned on him that he's been caught out and posted the pictures on twitter for the world to see. A wealthy Chinese businessman has been jailed for  13 years  for hiring poachers to kill three tigers so he could eat their penises  and drink  their blood. Xi Pat had 'a special hobby of grilling tiger bones, boning tiger paws, storing tiger penis, eating tiger meat and drinking tiger blood alcohol'. A court heard he ate the genitals and drank the animals' blood before giving the rest of the meat to his business friends and  partners . The court also heard he organised three separate trips last year for 15 people, including himself, to Leizhou in the southern  province of Guangdong, where they bought tigers for a 'huge  amount of  money' that were killed and dismembered as they watched.

Suspected members of Boko Haram killed at least 15 people in a fresh attack on Kautikari, a village near Chibok community in Borno state on Monday December 29th. "They were about 20, well-armed. They came in four-wheel drive vehicles and some motorcycles. Initially, I thought they were soldiers. The man running behind me was gunned down as I was fleeing. Afterwards, there were 15 people lying dead in the streets,” ,” a survivor, Jonah Umaru, told newsmen on phone

As from first of January 2015, prices of imported used cars otherwise known as Tokunbo or second-hand cars are expected to go up as the second phase of the national automotive policy which was announced in November 2013, will commence. Car dealers would be expected to pay the federal government 70% duty on all imported cars. FG had in 2013 introduced the national automotive policy with the view of encouraging local assemblage of automobiles in Nigeria, increasing the import tariff from 22% to 70%. The first phase of the policy involving the payment of 35% duty came into effect in February 2014 while the second phase which would have started in July this year was postponed to Jan. 2015.

Indonesian search officials have now confirmed they have located the fuselage of AirAsia flight 8501 on sonar radar, upside down on the sea floor, not far from where three of the bodies from the doomed AirAsia flight were found holding hands when discovered floating in the Java Sea. Officials from Basarnas, Indonesia's search and rescue agency, say the plane wreckage has been located in 24 to 30 metres of water and one of the seven confirmed recovered bodies was wearing a life jacket. Lieutenant Airman Tri Wobowo, who was co-piloting Indonesia's C130 Herclues aircraft, was the first to discover debris from the plane and witnessed the tragic scene. 'There were seven to eight people. Three of them held hands,' he told a local newspaper.

A 37 year old Nigerian man, Ibe Godwin Uzochukwu has been sentenced to death by hanging in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia after he was found guilty by a Malysian high court for trafficking 2,150.4 grammes of methamphetamine. He was arrested with the drugs at KL International Airport (KLIA), Sepang in 2011. According to court documents, Ibe was arrested with the banned drugs upon his arrival at the exit Route, KLIA Arrival Hall, at 4.30pm on July 1, 2011. After listening to the submission of the prosecuting counsel, the judge who presided over the case, Datuk Halim Aman, found Uzochukwu guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging.

Vice Presidential Candidate of the APC, Prof Yemi Osibajo says it is only Nigerians who love hunger that will return the present administration into office in 2015. He said this at a town hall meeting for artisans, tradesmen and farmers organised by the Lagos state government at the state secretariat yesterday December 30th 2015. “No one is ignorant of all that is happening to us in this country. No one likes hunger and poverty; but people are hungry. In 2015, only those who love to continue to be hungry would prefer that the government in power at the centre remains there. Seven suspected Boko Haram terrorists were on Monday killed when an Improvised Explosives Device hidden in a Toyota pick-up van exploded before it could get to Biu Market, suspected to be its destination. A security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity with PUNCH on the telephone on Tuesday, said: “A Toyota pick-up van, loaded with maize and beans with IED hidden under them, belonging to Boko Haram insurgents, exploded near Chikwarkir village of Biu, killing all the occupants of the van.”

At least 40 bodies have been recovered from the sea in the search for missing AirAsia Flight QZ8501, the Indonesian navy says. According to BBC, the bodies were spotted along with debris floating in the Java Sea off the Indonesian part of Borneo, in one of the search zones for the plane. There has been no official confirmation that the remains come from the plane. The Airbus A320-200, carrying 162 people from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore, disappeared on Sunday. Relatives cried and hugged each other as bodies were shown on live TV Pictures of debris were taken by search and rescue aircraft. The search operation is now in its third day, with the area widened to cover 13 zones over land and sea.

Two days after an AirAsia airliner carrying 163 people plunged into the sea, another one carrying 153 passengers overshot the runway at an airport in the Philippines today December 30th, forcing passengers to disembark the aircraft on emergency slides. The incident occurred at Kalibo Airport in Aklan province in Philippines according to a journalist Jet Damazo-Santos who was on board and shared the photo above on Twitter. "Engine was shut immediately, we were told to leave bags, deplane asap. Firetruck was waiting,' she said There have been no word from AirAsia officials about this latest incident but according to Jet, no passenger was injured in this latest mishap.

Indonesian officials say they have found six dead bodies, luggage, a plane door, and an emergency slide floating in the water off the coast of Borneo Island. They are all from the AirAsia flight that disappeared two days ago after losing communications with control tower after encountering storm clouds. Three of the bodies recovered had no live jackets and were found swollen but intact. Images on Indonesian television showed a half-naked bloated body bobbing in the sea. Search and rescue teams were lowered on ropes from a hovering helicopter to retrieve the corpses. Several pieces of red, white and black debris were earlier spotted in the Java Sea near Borneo island which officials later confirmed to be debris from the missing jet. 

A husband strangled his own wife then stabbed himself in a murder-suicide at the couple's home, police believe,  Daily Mail  reports. Richard Dzienisiewski and his wife Christine, both 37, were both found dead at their home in Hazlet Township, New Jersey, on Saturday in an apparent murder-suicide. Christine had been strangled, Hazlet Township police said, while Richard had been stabbed. Authorities were called around 7.50pm.

Ahead of the 2015 general elections, Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo has told the Independent National Electoral Commission that his Bachelors and Masters degrees certificates in Architecture from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, have been consumed by fire. Sambo, who is the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, made the declaration in the documents he filed with INEC and displayed on the commission’s office in Abuja although the details of the fire that consumed the certificates were not given.

Looks like the AirAsia flight that went missing early yesterday morning may be at the bottom of the sea. Indonesian officials say a search plane hunting for the missing plane have spotted objects in the sea believed to be wreckage from the plane which was carrying 155 passengers and 7 crew members. An Australian Orion aircraft early this morning detected suspicious objects near Nangka island, about 160 kilometres south-west of Pangkalan Bun, near central Kalimantan, which is about 1,120 kilometres from the location where the plane lost contact while an Indonesian helicopter saw two oily spots in the search area a few hours later, this is according to Indonesian officials. Experts believe that  the aircraft was likely flying too slow to avoid a thunderstorm they encountered and this caused the plane to stall  and crash.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ijede Police Station, Nwaoha Uzoma, has died. Our correspondent learnt that Uzoma’s corpse was found in his office on Thursday, a day after he entered and locked himself in. It was gathered that after he did not pick his calls, anxious relatives and policemen in the station broke the door open and saw his lifeless body on the floor.

The Ebonyi State Police Command yesterday Sunday Dec. 28th confirmed the arrest of a 45yr old man named Nwofu Igbo, who allegedly killed his son in Nwofe Community in Izzi LGA. Government Area of the state. The Police Public Relations officer (PPRO) of the command, ASP Chris Anyanwu, said in Abakaliki that the matter was being investigated by the police. “The police is prepared to get to the root of the problem that led to the killing of the boy,’’ Anyanwu said. He said that the suspect had confessed to the killing of his 16-year-old son who returned from Lagos to celebrate the Christmas with his family members.

After nearly 20 years of marriage, comedian Chris Rock and wife Malaak Compton have decided to end their marriage. Mehmet Ali Agca, the Turkish man who shot and injured former Pope, John Paul II in 1981 has laid flowers on the dead pontiff's tomb in the Vatican. 56-year-old Agca told the police he felt the need to make the gesture, according to a report by Italian media. The visit comes 31 years after the late pope John Paul II visited Agca in prison and forgave him for the attempt on his life - shooting him twice at close range.

Another Asian airliner has gone missing: AirAsia flight QZ8501 lost contact with air traffic control at 7:24 a.m. local time on Sunday, AirAsia reported about four hours after the plane disappeared en route to Singapore. Sunday’s missing AirAsia flight was traveling between Surabaya, in Indonesia, and Singapore. There were 155 passengers and seven crew on board the Airbus A320-200, officials have said.

The Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has responded to accusations by the Nigerian army that his platform is a propaganda media for terrorism and Boko Haram. (read  here ). In a chat with The Paradigm, Mr Sowore said the Nigerian army has been reduced to a petty organization "The Nigerian Army has been reduced to a petty organization. The other day they deployed their men chasing after newspaper delivery vans across Nigeria because some were critical of their handling of the anti-terrorism fight. Since they can’t find or arrest our copies, they’ve resorted to cheap blackmail.
