The first case of Lassa fever has been recorded in Lagos state. Minister of Healt!h, Isaac Adewole, who made this known, said the patient is a 25 year old student of the Ahmadu Bello University who traveled from Zaria. He said the patient has now been isolated at the Accident and Emergency (A&E) unit of the hospital. Ribavirin is also available. He asked that residents of the state must not panic as government is working to stop the spread of the disease. The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Olufemi Fasanmade said: “Containment area being devised, ribavirin available. We will use theatre in A&E as isolation ward. No need to panic. But limit movement to A&E if not necessary. Our trained staff on ground.” Lassa fever is transmitted by infected rodents.

Al Ain insist Emmanuel Emenike did not do enough to prove his worth to the United Arab Emirates club, hence they  decided to send Emenike packing on Wednesday. The 28 - year old retired Nigeria international joined  Al Ain from Fenerbahce, on a season long loan deal last summer but the agreement between both clubs and the striker will be cut short, with a move to the Chinese Super League,  which is a possibility for the Nigerian. Al Ain have already signed Brazilian striker Douglas as a replacement for Emenike. The 39-year-old father and his teenage daughter told police they were drinking beer at the Osborn Playground in Brownsville last Thursday night when they were accosted by the five youths, between the ages of 14 and 17, who then proceeded to rape the 18-year-old after threatening the father with a gun. Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was today (January 14th) honored by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. He was awarded with the Presidential Award in recognition of his leadership in advancing human rights, social justice and the fight for universal freedom. The SCLC, founded by the late American Civil Right leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, in January 1957 is currently led by Dr. Charles Steele Jr. The event is part of the activities leading up to the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day on Monday, January 18th, 2016. Drug smugglers trying to sneak thousands of pounds of weed disguised as carrots into the United States were sniffed out by authorities this weekend—though they demonstrated "creativity" in the attempted smuggling, officials said. U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted 2,493 pounds of “alleged marijuana,” which was found hidden among a commercial shipment of fresh carrots in a tractor-trailer traveling from Mexico. The shipment was discovered during a search at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility, located near the U.S. border with Mexico in southeastern Texas—around 250 miles south of San Antonio.
