Kurdish forces recaptured the town on January 26 in a symbolic blow to the jihadists who have seized large swathes of territory in their onslaught across Syria and Iraq. But the town is now characterised by demolished buildings, with heavily armed fighters roaming otherwise deserted, rubble-strewn streets.

Although their town has been liberated, thousands of residents are now settling into Turkey's newest refugee camp for an indefinite stay and have been warned not to return until the area has been fully secured. (Courtesy - UK Daily Mail). See the photos below...

Akwa Ibom tribunal orders re-run election in 18 LGA

The Akwa Ibom state governorship tribunal today nullified the April 11 governorship election in 18 out of the 31 Local government areas in the state, citing irregularities in the manner in which the elections were conducted. The tribunal ordered that fresh elections should be conducted in the affected Local government areas while the state governor, should still remain in office pending the outcome of the re-run election. APC governorship candidate in the state, Umana Umana had dragged the state governor and PDP candidate Udom Emmanuel before the tribunal, challenging his victory at the poll.
