There was tension yesterday afternoon in Ajah area of Lagos State as some chiefs, including the Olumegbon of Lagos, Chief Fatai Olumegbon and scores of hoodlums were arrested by a team of antiriot policemen. The chiefs and others arrested were accused of sponsoring hoodlums who are unleashing terror in the community
The police had, on Monday afternoon, brought Olumegbon to his Ajah Roundabout home for a search when they invaded popular hideouts around the building.
A resident, who simply identified himself as Femi, told National Mirror that the police invasion created serious confusion among the hoodlums. Femi said: “The police brought Olumegbon to his house and saw many hoodlums around the place and they started arresting them.”
He said attempts by the police to arrest the hoodlums almost resulted in violence, as some hoodlums popularly called “Olumegbon boys” scampered in different directions. To prevent the hoodlums from running away, the police, it was said, shot into the air.
The shooting created tension in the area The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ngozi Braide, could not confirm the number of those arrested as at the time of filling in this report.
