A mother checked her beloved dog into at a dog hotel but left her youngdaughters to care for themselves.
The mother was arrested and her children taken away after she left them home alone for three days.
Kristine Noffsinger, 29, of Austin, Texas seemed to be a responsible dog owner when she checked her beloved pooch Teddy, into a PetSmart hotel rather than leaving it home alone.
Noffsinger took a three day vacation to St. Louis, Missouri and wanted someone to take care of her dog, but surprisingly, she left her 8-year-old and 10-year-old daughters home alone to care for themselves. The girls had to get themselves to and from school, as well as cook breakfast, lunch and dinner by themselves for three days.
Child Protective Services was tipped off to the situation and Williamson County deputies went to the home and removed the children.
“It seems like the mother cared more about her dog than her young children. On the other hand there are no hotels where one can drop off children to be cared for as there are for dogs,” Lisa Baker, 25, of Lockhart, Texas told YourJewishNews.com upon learning the reason behind Noffsinger’s arrest.
Although it is not illegal to leave children home alone, Julie Moody, a CPS spokesperson said “common sense is important” when leaving children home alone. “There is a difference between running to the store to pick up a few things and be back home in 30 minutes and leaving children home alone to care for themselves for three days,” Moody said.
This incident is seen by police as neglectful supervision, the mother allegedly placed her children in a situation in which they were not mature enough to handle.
Noffsinger is facing charges of abandoning or endangering the youngsters. The girls were taken into protective custody and have since been placed with one of their fathers.
Noffsinger was arrested when she returned home. She is being held at the Williamson County jail on $40,000 bail
