Aero Contractors Helicopter Seized For Mistakenly Landing On Enugu Governor’s Lodge

A helicopter bearing the markings of Aero Contractors which mistakenly landed at Governor’s lodge of Enugu Government House yesterday at around 10.30am has been seized. The pilot and the crew members of the helicopter were also detained at the government lodge for alleged security breach.

The crew members upon interrogation said the helicopter mistook the Government House for the State House of Assembly complex from where they were meant to convey the corpse of a deceased member of old Anambra State House of Assembly, Sir Andrew Umeoji.

They were later handed over to the police for further interrogation.  Read the press statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Chukwudi Achife on the incident after the cut.


“At about 10.30 am today (Tuesday), a helicopter bearing the markings of Aero Contractors landed without permission at the Governor’s lodge.


“The mission of the visitors was unknown to the government. After preliminary inquiries, the Chief Security Officer to the Governor, Mr. Fidelis Ogarebe, handed the three occupants of the aircraft – two pilots and one Engineer over to the State Police Command for further investigations”

Nigerian Army removes Commander whose battalion revolted yesterday

The Army Commander whose unit revolted yesterday May 14th in Maiduguri (read  here ) has been removed by the Nigerian Army from the 7th infantry division. Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Major General Chris Olukolade, announced the removal of Major General Ahmadu Mohammed in a statement released today. The Commander's battalion revolted yesterday, shooting sporadically after seeing the bodies of their colleagues who had been ambushed and killed by Boko Haram in Chibok. They also complained of not getting adequate weaponry to fight Boko Haram and poor conditions. The soldiers shot at their commander during the rampage but didn't kill him.
