The Lagos State Police command has refuted claims that the explosion that happened last night at Creek road in Apapa Lagos was caused by a bomb saying it was caused by a tanker carrying petrol    Force Public Relations officer, Ngozi Braide explains “There is nothing whatsoever suggesting that it was a bomb explosion. It was a tanker loaded with fuel that burst into flames. Policemen are on ground there now and we cannot yet ascertain the casualty figures. But everything is under control,” she said. In a contradictory statement, Ibrahim Farinloye, the Spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA South-West said the cause of the fire was as a result of a gas cylinder explosion. Dozens of suspected members of Boko Haram sect on Tuesday June 24th carried out a deadly attack on a military post in Bulabulin Ngaura in Damboa LGA of Borno killing 16 soldiers, Punch reports.   According to one of the soldiers who escaped and spoke on anonymity to journalists, he said the sect men came in 30 vehicles mounted with anti-aircraft guns, caught them unawares and subdued them "We were totally subdued by the insurgents. Some of my colleagues were abducted and many others escaped with bullet wounds. Dozens of Boko Haram insurgents stormed our checkpoint at Bulabulin  on Tuesday  night. The terrorists came in a convoy of over 30 vehicles, mounted with Anti Aircraft guns (AA). I was at the checkpoint when the terrorists came, we tried our best but they had advantage over us. They had AA and we had Ak47 rifles that are not fully loaded. When we realized that they had taken over the place, some of us escaped to Maiduguri and other places but many could not make it

A ritualist den owned by one pastor Ernest Nwankwo, the General Overseer of Holy Family Ministry a.k.a House of Mercy was  yesterday  June 25th uncovered at Ogolonto area in Ikorodu, Lagos, with 8 victims rescued. According to  Vanguard , the den was discovered after a failed attempt by a woman identified as Mrs Rosemary Chukwu, a member of Pastor Nwankwo's church, to kidnap her neighbor's 7 year old son, Emeka Emmanuel to the den for rituals. Sources in the area said around 6.30 am yesterday, Mrs Chukwu lured the little boy who was on his way to fetch water from a well down the road and took him to her house where she locked him in the toilet. 13 year old Ricky Osagie (pictured above, his dad right) from Warrenstown died on Saturday June 21st following a brave attempt to try to save a girl who had got into trouble swimming in a man-made pond at Waterville Hall residential complex in Blanchardstown, Dublin on Friday June 20th. According to Irish Mirror, a friend of Ricky's, a teenage girl, got into the water and was almost drowning when Ricky and another female friend jumped into the pond to try to save her. The other teen girl who jumped in to help also now had difficulties in the pond, and it was up to Ricky to save both girls. Which he did. Paramedics were called and all three teens were taken to the hospital. The two girls survived, but Ricky died the next day. Ricky Osagie was a teenage soccer sensation whose dream was to represent Ireland, his distraught father, Kelly Osagie told the Sunday Irish Mirror. Three soldiers were reportedly killed yesterday June 22nd after a suicide bomber suspected to be from the Boko Haram sect attacked a military post near a Secondary school in Gwoza, Borno state.   Vanguard reports the suicide bomber drove through Wala and Warabe villages before getting to the military post where the bomb detonated and a loud sound immediately followed, with the vehicle the suicide bomber rode in and other things in the attack scene destroyed.   One of the residents of the area, Mallam Usman Yaro who spoke with Vanguard said residents of the area were still asleep when the bomb detonated. The father of music superstar 2face Idibia was recently diagnosed with prostrate cancer. 2face himself revealed this early this month while speaking at a cancer charity event at the Eko Hotel, in Lagos. The good news is that he Mr Idibia was diagnosed early and has started the required treatment. "He is fine and there is really no problem. He was diagnosed early and he has started the required  treatment. He will be fine. It is just one of those things. The family will get through it. A 20 year old Pakistani lady identified as Muzammil Bibi was found strangled and hung on a tree after resisting rape attempts by three men. Police in Pakistan say the young lady was accosted by the men in a field at the densely populated Punjab province and when she tried to resist being raped, they beat her up, raped her, strangled her and afterwards hanged her on a tree, local media reports. Speaking on the incident, Pakistani Senior Police Officer, Sadaqat Ali Chohan expressed shock, saying this was the first time such a thing would happen in Pakistan. "This is  the first time in my 22 years of service in the police that I have seen such a case where a girl was raped in this way and found hanging from a tree. We have heard of such cases in India but never in Pakistan. The girl's clothes were torn. We took her down and moved her to hospital. Her body had signs of resistance. There were reports last week that the ticket sales for Beyonce and Jay Z's 'On The Run' tour set to begin in Miami on June 25 and wrap in San Francisco Aug. 5 were much lower than expected as people were no longer interested in watching the power couple in concert after the elevator fight...but it seems that report isn't true... The Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Fulvius Rusticu, yesterday June 19th revealed plans by the Italian Government to repatriate 700 Nigerian prisoners currently serving jail time in Italian prisons. While  speaking with pressmen in Abuja, Fulvius said Italian and Nigerian Govt officials were in talks for a Transfer Agreement (PTA) and would meet first week in July in Rome to conclude negotiations. He said bringing the prisoner closer home is in the interest of the prisoners  "Each country is responsible for its prisons; the logic in signing a PTA is that we think that it is better for Nigerians and even Italians to serve their terms at home. Already to be in prisons is not a nice experience, being abroad is even worse, so given the prisoner the chance to return home is in their own interest. It is very rare for a prisoner to want to stay in a foreign country, we have cases of Italians serving in prisons abroad and they look forward, and are happy to return home,” he said No

A notorious terrorist and gang leader simply known as Mallam Husaini was shot dead today June 20th along the Jos-Bauch highway by the Nigerian military after his gang engaged soldiers in a shoot out after attacking a military  convoy that was on an operational patrol between Jos and Bauchi. In a press statement released today by the Defence Headquarters, Mallam Husaini had led a series of attacks on security personnel and  led the attack on the Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad  HQ  in Abuja in Nov. 2012 and also led  t he attack on a military convoy moving from Lokoja to Kaduna where two soldiers were killed in January 2013. After the shoot out, the military recovered  the Ford bus used by the terrorists to operate, 8 Primed Improvised Explosive Devices, rifles, pistols and about 70 rounds of ammunition. Entrance into Abuja yesterday was shut down and pandemonium took over on the popular Kubwa-Zuba expressway after a woman and her son tragically lost their lives during the demolition of Aluguyi Village, popularly known as Lungu Village in the FCT. According to angry natives, some Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) officials, in the company of well armed military personnel, had stormed their community at about 10am and started demolishing houses along with their belongings, not minding if people were inside or not. A demolition they said was unannounced and totally inhumane.

An angry man has stabbed his friend to death in Olodi- Apapa area of Lagos State for allegedly raping his younger sister. LEADERSHIP reports that trouble had started when the girl, identified as Miss Usims, ran home and reported to her brother that his friend raped her when she was sent on an errand last Sunday. The following day, when the suspect accosted his friend in the company of his father, Mr Usims, and his brother, on Price Fadina Street, a war of words ensued and further degenerated into a fight between the accused and the Usims. In the ensuing scuffle, one of the Usims, identified as Samuel, allegedly stabbed the suspected rapist in the neck with a screw-driver.

There was a reason corruption charges was dropped against Mohammed Abacha, the eldest son of late former Nigerian Head of State, Gen, Sani Abacha. $227million stolen money has been recovered from the Abacha family. On June 25th  Nigeria will receive $227million from the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Europe, as the nation is said to have agreed to release the stolen money. AFP  reports that the federal government said today Thursday June 19th that it dropped the charges against Mohammed in a deal to allow the return of the Liechtenstein money. Mohammed Abacha is wanted in the US for his alleged part in laundering $458m in funds stolen by his late father and frozen by the U.S in February. Abacha, who died in 1998 and is believed to have stolen up to $5 billion.

President Jonathan has appointed Mrs. Roli Bode-George as the new Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The appointment was announced this evening by Presidential Spokesperson, Reuben Abati. Mrs Bode-George takes over from Mr Olufemi Ajayi, who is now the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). The appointment is with immediate effect. Bode George was arrested and jailed for fraud and abuse of office when he served as chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority, but his conviction was later upturned by the Supreme Court.

Right now I am pushing everything aside to record a 9 -rack hip-hop album that will blow everyone’s mind. The 3 singles, according to my management company (AO21 Media), will be officially released on Tuesday, 24 th  of June 2014. A gym instructor who paid £4,000 - N1m for a boob job was horrified when surgeons first made her breasts too big - and then the implants exploded inside her. Kim Brockhurst, 51, went under the knife hoping to increase her 32AA breasts by two cup sizes. But she was shocked when she came round after the surgery to find she had a pair of huge DD breasts. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, has been closed down indefinitely following days of students' protest over increase in their school fees which was the introduced in May. The school administration this afternoon released a statement announcing an indefinite shutdown of the institution and ordered students to vacate its premises by Thursday afternoon, citing 'persistent disruption of normal activities and peace on campus as a result of violent demonstrations by students, led by the Student Union Executive' as their reason for shutting down the school. "Consequently, all students are directed to vacate their Halls of Residence and the University premises immediately and not later than 12 noon on Thursday, 19th June, 2014. Parents are hereby enjoined to ensure that their children/wards comply with this directive immediately.” the statement read.

An Upper Area court in Zuba, FCT, on Wednesday sentenced two women – Binta Mamman, 35, and Safiya Aliyu, 19, both of Deidei, Abuja, to five months imprisonment for slapping a police man. The women had also been charged with using abusive language and public nuisance. Malam Aminu Sa’ad, the presiding judge, handed down the sentence after the women pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of criminal force and assault, use of abusive language and public nuisance. Sa’ad ruled that on the first count of criminal force and assault, the convicts shall serve a jail term of one month each without an option of fine. Continue...

 Xiong Jianguo is a 50 year old homeless Chinese man and 7 years ago, he found his adopted daughter Yanyan, then a baby girl, in a rubbish bin. The pair now live under a bridge, and despite their difficult circumstances Jianguo is raising the youngster as his own, teaching little Yanyan how to read and write. Speaking of when he found her, Jianguo told newsmen: "I guess she was one of those children that was born to a family who didn't want a girl. I had lifted the top off the rubbish bin and was looking to see if there were any plastic bottles I could sell to recycle when I heard a baby. She was in a box in a blanket and I was absolutely stunned.   She was so helpless that I bought a bottle and fed her, and I just knew then that I wanted  to look after her and raise her. No matter how hard it is, I intend to make sure that I raise her until she is old enough to stand on her own two feet."

Dozens of elderly women gathered have gathered at a graveyard in Berlin, were they celebrated an historic event: the opening of the world’s first lesbian-only cemetery. A 4,300-square-foot area was made available in one of the German capital’s oldest burial grounds, the Lutheran Georgen Parochial cemetery, and will serve as the final resting place for up to 80 gay women. When a Punch correspondent visited the scene on Wednesday morning, a police patrol vehicle was stationed in front of the compound to ward off curious residents and looters. Upon gaining access to the house, it did not take long for the correspondent to notice a spatter of blood on the walls of almost all the toilets in the house. According to a breaking news report on  Premium Times , two Improvised Explosive Devices was discovered at a church, Winners Chapel on Port Harcourt road in Owerri, Imo state this morning June 15th. The police detonated the bomb after detecting them. The Commissioner of Police in Imo state, Abdumajid Ali, said they have arrested six suspects over the discovery of the explosives. The police say they believe the explosives were planted on Saturday night and timed to explode after worshippers had gathered for worship today. Thankfully it was discovered on time. Details later

Nigeria, again, will spend a fortune on officials travelling abroad with President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential delegation to the World Cup in Brazil this week. If the mega-size team had any chance escaping public attention, a similar presidential delegation announced by United States President Barack Obama, sealed it. A 19-year old Nigerian teenager, Aisha Eniola who resides in the United Kingdom has emerged the youngest councillor in UK.  Taking after her father who was once a councillor, Eniola who represents the Harlesden Ward, won the residents of the ward over with her intelligence which showed through during the pre-election debates. She had the highest overall votes of 2,160 beating her other counterparts who had 459 and 313, to emerge the youngest councillor in UK. The final year student of Mass Communication says she hopes her victory will encourage other young people to participate in politics. 

Former House of Reps member Otunba Dino Melaye this morning, 11 th  of June, 2014 won the legal battle against the Inspector General of Police and Federal Capital police Commissioner, Mr Joseph Mbu over the disruption of one of the #bringbackourgirls protests in Abuja on the 11 th  of May.  The court also restrained the IGP and commissioner of police from further harassment, arrest and disruption of rallies, processions and demonstrations by Melaye.
