Lagos state Governor, Raji Fashola today August 15th commissioned the newly refurbished Tejuosho market in Yaba Lagos, 7 years after the old market structure was completely gutted by fire. The refurbished market, which used to have 1,484 lockup, has been increased to 2,640. Facilities in the new market complex includes banking spaces, 8 lifts to enable goods, services and people move up, two escalators for up and down movement of people, two ramps designed to assist physically handicapped people to get into and out of the building and a crèche where nursing mothers can attend to and keep their children while they are trading. There is also a dedicated Fire Service Station within the complex with fire fighting systems built in the market to forestall any incident of fire disaster as well as a dedicated 800-vehicle capacity car-park unit. Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shehu Shema will today wed Miss Maryam Yar’Adua, the first daughter of former President Umaru Yar’Adua at the new Usman Dan Fodio mosque where the wedding prayers will hold. Maryam’s sisters, Nafisa and Zainab, are married to Governors Isa Yuguda of Bauchi and Saidu Dakingari of Kebbi. The wedding will be a low key one due to the security situation of the country.

According to new reports, approximately £20,916 has been withdrawn from the accounts of four passengers aboard the missing Malaysian plane which disappeared on March 8th while on its way to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A bank in  Kuala Lumpur, claim that they noticed the  discrepancies   in their accounts on July 18 and lodged a complaint to the police. The management of the bank said money from the accounts of three passengers was  transferred to the account of a fourth passenger before the money was removed. Assistant Commissioner to the crime investigation department, Izany Abdul Ghany, confirmed getting a report from the bank. " We are investigating the case as unauthorised access with intent to commit an offence . We are getting CCTV footage from the bank to identify the suspects involved ,' Izany said, according to the Mirror. Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote has donated N150million to help in the fight of the spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria. The Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Foundation, Mrs Adhiambo Odaga announced this at a media briefing at the Ministry of Health, Abuja on Monday. She said the money will be available for the establishment of an Ebola emergency operation centre in Lagos. “After bilateral discussion with the honourable minister and his team, Dangote foundation has funded the establishment of the Ebola emergency operation in Lagos, that is being done through grant from the foundation of just a little over N150 million,” she said. The daughter of long-serving former Australian state premier Neville Wran was today charged with murder over the stabbing to death of an alleged small-time drug dealer in Sydney.  Harriet Wran, 26 and two other  men are  accused of taking part in the fatal stabbing of a man at a public housing complex which took place on Sunday during a drug deal. Australian  Broadcasting Corporation  reported that Ms Wran and the two men face charges of murder, breaking and entering.  Sadly, both the police and her lawyer confirmed to reporters that she was involved in a drug deal at the time of the incident. Wran was last seen in public at her father's burial in May.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has re-introduced ATM charges for cash withdrawals made on other banks’ Automated Teller Machines. In a circular dated August 13rd 2014 and signed by the Director, Banking and Payment Systems Department, CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun , the re-introduced ATM deduction pegged at N65 per withdraw would take effect from  September 1st 2014 . Looks like hard times for the Thiam Brothers. According to TMZ, the repo man is coming for Akon's Ferrari 458 Italia claiming singer and record label exec owes $250k on his lease. The car is actually worth $225k but the total cost of the lease is a whopping $360k! This what happens when you don't do cash and carry. A doctor who attended to late Patrick Sawyer at the First Consultant Hospital has been confirmed positive with the Ebola virus. Speaking at a news conference today, the Nigerian Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu said the doctor is currently undergoing treatment at the quarantine centre in Lagos. Prof Onyebuchi revealed  that some of the 169 secondary contacts of Sawyer were no longer under surveillance and had been released, having completed the 21 days of incubation period.  The Minister also said the nurse who had escaped the quarantine center in Lagos and traveled to Enugu state has been returned back to Lagos with her husband in a special traveling ambulance.
